The Costa de Almeria lies to the east of the Costa del Sol. Holidays on the Costa de Almeria provide a very different experience from the more popular regions of Spain. It is much less well known so relatively unspoilt and quiet. The coastline varies from extensive sandy beaches to a host of small secluded beaches and coves. The towns of the Costa de Almeria are white-washed buildings in traditional North African style, so it’s the ideal holiday destination for those who want to combine sun and sea with a more authentic experience of Spain.
The Mediterranean climate is warm and dry, with mild winters making a Costa de Almeria holiday enjoyable all the year round.
Like most of the region, Mojacar is a relatively quiet resort which appeals particularly to couples who like sunshine and a good beach. The village of Mojacar itself is set on top of a hill, built of white Moorish houses in narrow, winding streets. There are more hotels, restaurants and other amenities on the coast at Mojacar Beach.
While Mojacar is in a rural setting, Vera Waterpark is just a short bus ride away. Golf is also played in Mojacar and the course boasts spectacular views.
Beaches in Mojacar
Mojacar Beach is gently shelving and comprises seven kilometres of shingle and sand. In keeping with the unspoilt and peaceful nature of the region, the main watersports are windsurfing sailing. Palmer Rumina Beach has been awarded a Blue Flag for cleanliness.
Holiday Shopping in Mojacar
Mojacar has a variety of art and craft shops selling exotic jewellery, leather goods and ceramics. The Indalo man, Almeria's good luck mascot, features heavily on the locally produced crafts and souvenirs. If you are staying in Mojacar over a weekend, don't miss the large Saturday market at Aguilas nearby for more retail therapy!
Mojacar Nightlife
Mojacar has a limited selection of bars dotted along the coastline. You're more likely to find traditional Spanish bars up in the village, while on the beach there are a couple of discotheques in which to dance the night away!
Local Specialities of Mojacar
Mojacar boasts thirty waterfront restaurants, mainly towards the south end of Mojacar Beach a short taxi or bus ride away. The fishing port of Garrucha is close by and has many fish and seafood restaurants, bars and a promenade.
