Ibiza - one of the most famous holiday destinations in the world, which also just happens to be one of the most beautiful islands you'll find anywhere. Verdant rolling hills and open plains merge into beaches of golden sand dipping into the azure Mediterranean. Although it has consistently been one of the most popular of all holiday destinations for Britons for decades, the island has retained its historic traditional character by keeping purpose-built holiday resorts to the coast and letting the rest of the island carry on undisturbed. No matter what tyoe of holiday you like, you'll be well catered for in Ibiza. From the sun, sand and all-night music of the resorts to the mediaeval villages and orchards inland, wild partying to culture and architecture, you'll find it all in Ibiza.
Despite its development into a popular resort, Es Cana, 25km northeast of Ibiza town, has lost little of its original character: Es Cana is a splash of colour - white buildings, deep blue seas, rich green pine forests and pale yellow sands. There’s a good selection of bars, cafés and restaurants, particularly on the seafront, but nightlife is relaxed rather than frenzied. Occasional local fiestas and the endearingly named ‘hippy market’ craft fair, held on Wednesdays, add a touch of colour.
Beaches in Es Cana
With a backdrop of pine-clad hills, the bay of Es Cana has two small beaches of fine pale sand. The larger beach is sheltered and ideal for families, and is served by various beach bars. But the beach at Cala Nova does have strong undercurrents which sometimes bring out the red flag. Watersports are available, especially in high season.
Shopping in Es Cana
Every Wednesday the market comes to you: Es Cana's hippy market is famous for miles around - you can buy virtually anything here but keep an eye out for Ibicencan craft work, glassware and leatherwear.
Es Cana Nightlife
There is plenty going on here after dark, particularly on the seafront. If you like the idea of finding a bar or café for a relaxed drink, Es Cana is going to offer you some perfect nights out. Just don't expect a lot of nightclubs or gourmet restaurants.
Local Specialities of Es Cana
There's a good choice of bars, cafés and restaurants on Es Cana seafront. Island specialities include sofrit pages: potatoes, meat and red peppers stewed in olive oil.
